Who We Are

Joan Abbott Dawley

Land use issues in NH are her chief concern...

New Hampshire native, born in Manchester, spent summers in Rye and became year 'round Seacoast resident in 1970.  Live with husband Dave, construction company owner and fly fisherman; identical twin sons, age 20; and "Gundo", the wonder dog.

Favorite school:  Fryeburg Academy, Fryeburg, Maine, proud member of the Class of 1960. Graduated from UNH Durham in 1964, then studied French in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

First job was with the United Nations in New York City.  Later was privileged to work as legal assistant in Portsmouth, NH for Attorney Thomas E. Flynn.  Owned Appledore Realty in Rye for fifteen years and currently work part time as zoning administrator in the Village District of Rye Beach.

Past member of the Rye Planning Board and now actively promoting zoning for retirement community developments with a volunteer group of Rye seniors.  Interests include a rediscovered love of camping, having enjoyed recent stays at Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham and Eastern Slopes Campground in North Conway.  Also like swimming, beaching, walking the dog, cooking, gardening and doing word puzzles.
