"Sunday at the Beach" depicts Wallis Sands Beach, looking northward, and was painted by Jim Hamil of Overland Park, Kansas. A former Hallmark artist, Hamil frequently visits Rye. This watercolor was painted by Hamil from the south side of Parsons Creek. He also painted "Polly's Porch" that appeared in the July 2005 issue. His work is often produced on cards. The summer theme recurs throughout this issue with a poem, "Summer Hats" by Polly Morton, a beach photo essay by Judy Underwood with an Ogden Nash excerpt from "Pretty Halycon Days", beautification in Hampton Beach, the planting of Celia Thaxter's garden and, of course, recipes for blueberries.
