Longtime English/poetry teacher and football coach; father of nine

Update:
Norm passed away on August 22, 2011. Obituary here.
Phyllis passed away on July 27, 2014.

A graduate of Swampscott High in Mass., Williams College, and Harvard School of Education, Norm Walker taught English and coached many sports, 23 years in the Newton, Mass, public schools, two years at Wayland High, and 23 at Holderness School in N.H. He retired in the spring of 2007 but stays active substitute teaching and volunteering in the winter and working at Abenaqui Country Club in the summer and fall. Though Norm is best known as a football coach, he likes to teach and write poetry as much as he enjoys working with his players on the gridiron.

He and his wife Phyllis, a former nurse from Scituate, Mass., raised nine children and now are somewhat busy keeping up with 16 grandchildren. They bought a home on Vin Mar Court in Rye 12 years ago where they will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 29, 2007.
