A bit of London comes to Foyes Corner roundabout

Generous donor provides public art

Thanks to an anonymous donor, Rye has a new piece of public sculpture, a magnificent reproduction of the famous statue of Horatio Lord Nelson, placed in the center of the Foyes Corner Roundabout, much as the original sits in Trafalgar Square in London. Unfortunately, to comply with zoning ordinances the height was restricted to only 35 feet, but all surrounding wires were put underground so they would not detract from the aesthetic experience. The statue is expected to provide traffic safety benefits as drivers approaching the roundabout inevitably slow to look in awe.
