It's not uncommon to see a swooping hawk. Occasionally one is spotted on a
tree branch. This one likes to perch on the bell tower of Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth, but it ventured to the horizontal arm of a lamp post on Austin Street, allowing this closeup photo by Jim Cerny. We're guessing it's a female Merlin Pigeon Hawk. Please click on Feedback to let us know. Was the hawk drawn to a wildlife-friendly backyard nearby? See wildlife story in Features Section. Hooked on wildlife photos? Don't miss Judy Underwood's latest offering from Australia in the Travel Section.
