My Teddy Bear

Gayle Sweeney

While he sat up on a store shelf my treasured teddy bear
made a wish for a real home with sparkling, sunshiny care.

My teddy bear is now just a little tiny bit worn.
He has belonged to me since about the day I was born.

Red like the berries on boughs of green holly is his bow.
When we're together he's very merry down to his toes.

My teddy bear often goes on trips with me in our car.
Actually he has been around home and very far.

At the playground we like to go for a ride on the slide.
In our shady backyard there is a spot to swing outside.

Teddy stays by me as I read an open storybook.
We have a coloring table in our room's corner nook.

On cold, snowy days we love to share a cup of cocoa
topped with a floating, pure cloud of white fluffy marshmallow.

My very lively, cuddly teddy bear is all snuggly.
If I am sad and I cry my teardrops can get puddly.

Then closely in my arms I want to hold onto teddy.
Soon he can make me feel so warm deep inside and happy.

Forever my teddy will remain a good, furry friend.
We especially love laughing and playing let's pretend.

Once right when we decided to be wild, free Indians
suddenly our fun magically started to happen.

We wore feathers as through a make believe forest I led.
Sometimes teddy plays up until we get ready for bed.

Tucked into our soft bed during the night we're not alone.
The angels' love guarding us is surely quietly shown.

After the light is turned out before we both fall asleep
with the puffed up pillows my teddy doesn't make a peep.

The stars in the sky beyond the window are shimmery.
Like a big star teddy always shines in my heart brightly!
